Sky Mavis is bringing back the old scholarship model of 2021 with the launch of the Axie Delegation feature, one that will not only span Axie Infinity Origins and Classic, but other games in the Axie universe as well.
What Is Axie Delegation?
Axie Delegation is a new app.axie feature that lets players share their axies with other players while still keeping ownership of them. If you have plenty of axies unusued, you can now let others borrow them using the new feature. Specifically, the feature, now live in beta, lets you share axies with scholars to play Origins, Classic, and Homeland. This lets other players who don’t own any or enough axies to play to earn in these Ronin-powered NFT games. In the future, it will be possible to share in-game rewards.
During this early launch phase, managers can still play with their delegated axies, but that should soon change once each of the 3 main Axie games officially support the feature to allow only scholars to play. This release also does not support reward sharing, meaning managers and scholars will have to agree amongst themselves until automated functionalities are added. The reasons for this seem to be because of each axie’s interoperability and the different ways you can earn in each Axie game. Now that the foundation is set though, the developers are “considering several models” that will make reward splits possible in the next phase, for which there isn’t an exact launch date or release timeframe available at the time of writing.
How Axie Delegation Works
The system lets managers simply head to their inventory and use Direct Delegation by selecting axies and clicking on the “Delegate Axie” option to enter the Ronin wallet address of your scholar while choosing the length of the contract period: 1 day, 7 days, 1 month, 2 months, or 1 year. You can delegate up to 20 axies in a single transaction that you have to approve using the Ronin Wallet. The scholar does not have to approve any transactions, so once the manager approves the transaction, the delegation period will begin, with the scholar receiving the axies to start their play and earn adventure. Once the contract expires, the axies will return to the manager straight away and become available for the owner to play with or delegate again. During the contract period, a manager has the right to revoke delegation 24 hours after the contract was approved.
Only the ability to play with axies is transferred to scholars. Other functions, such as breeding, ascending, and evolving axies, are only available to the manager.
Managers and scholars can have a look at their delegated and borrowed axies at the Delegation Center. This is where players can also bulk delegate and revoke axies, with managers tracking delegated axies in the “Delegated to Others” tab while scholars can check the axies they’ve received in the “Delegated to Me” tab.
The web3 gaming studio has created a database of the best scholars called the Scholar Pages. This list not only shows in-game names and wallet addresses of experienced players, but also their scholar tier (such as Top 10 or Top 50), their Discord and X names, the region they’re from, and the Axie games they’re experts in.
How Axie Delegation Is Integrated in Origins, Classic, Homeland, and the Bounty Board
Axie Homeland is the first game to have integrated the new feature, allowing land owners and stewards to use delegated axies as workers, but also to use them for the new passive PvE mode, Axie Adventure. The Land Delegation Marketplace is not affected by this integration. Non-land owners will also be able to delegate axies to make them usable in Homeland Avatar Mode.
Integration in Axie Infinity Classic should be up and running, with AXP earnings going to managers, while Leaderboard Rewards only go to scholars. Guilds delegating axies will get some unique features. For example, the Guild Leaders or Commanders will see a new delegation menu in-game, which makes it possible to assign up to 3 axies to guild members or themselves.
If everything works out fine in Homeland, then the feature will likely get integrated into Origins next, allowing axies to earn AXP without any sharing of Leaderboard Rewards. For this initial release, only scholars will get all of the Leaderboard Rewards. Scholars can’t Morph borrowed axies. Runes and Charms have to be equipped by scholars.
As for the Bounty Board, it will be possible to use delegated axies to complete various quests. Scholars will only be able to complete quests related to games, while quests that can only be done by owning a specific axie will only be available to managers. By completing quests on the Bounty Board, scholars can earn points that can be converted into AXS.
You can learn more about the delegation system in the official announcement, while more detailed and specific information on how Axie Delegation works across all 4 Axie products can be found in this official support page.
