Cyberpunk City Is Migrating to Solana With GameShift Integration

Battle royale hero shooter and gaming ecosystem Cyberpunk City is officially migrating from MultiversX over to Solana in order to provide a seamless web3 gaming experience for everyone to enjoy, whether they know anything about crypto or not.

Why Is Cyberpunk City Launching on Solana?

The decision to launch on this blockchain comes as a result of the network’s adoption, liquidity, low fees, super fast transactions, and overall technology that allows the developers to focus on improving gameplay. The network’s low costs ensure in-game functions such as trading NFTs and receiving rewards are more easily accessible, while the chain’s capability to quickly process thousands of transactions allows players to enjoy a smooth gameplay experience where interacting with various assets just happens seamlessly without any delays.

What Other Benefits Does the Solana Migration Bring to Cyberpunk City?

Not only does the migration improve everything on a technical level, but it is also said to be “a complete transformation designed to unlock new opportunities for our players,” according to the official announcement.

That being said, this migration is also set to bring a variety of other benefits to the web3 game, including new gameplay mechanics, more optimized dynamic city maps, and a more refined experience overall with lower latency and quicker matchmaking. The migration is said to allow players to experience true ownership through gameplay, earning CYB tokens and unique in-game assets with real-world value by completing various achievements, thus rewarding player skill.

The migration to Solana is planned to be completed by January 2025. Following the launch, the studio plans on further improving its blockchain game by introducing new features and content such as new maps, rewards, and operator classes, while hosting exclusive community-driven events and challenges that everyone will be able to enjoy across platforms thanks to plans to add in cross-platform compatibility. This means that you’ll not only get to play on PC, but also on Xbox and PlayStation, bringing an action-packed blockchain gaming experience to the masses.

How Does GameShift Integration Improve Cyberpunk City?

To make it easier for the wider gaming audience to jump in though, the team has announced that they have partnered with GameShift by Solana Labs.

With GameShift’s technology, developer Cyberdeck Studios is able to bring seamless onboarding to their UE5-powered title through a number of different features.

Among the features that come with this integration include account abstraction with the automatic creation of non-custodial smart wallets. There are also gasless transactions, as well as on and off-ramp solutions, making it easy to deposit funds and withdraw earnings. Not only can you simply fund your account with fiat and cryptocurrencies, but you can even trade on the in-game marketplace using your credit card. Next to trading NFTs in a user-friendly way, players will also have the option to lend and rent assets as well, which could be useful if you need a specific asset to take part in an event, but don’t want to pay the full price to completely own the asset. The developers will also use GameShift’s tournament systems to host various in-game events for players to enjoy and earn rewards from.

What Happens to $CYBER and Existing Cyberpunk City NFTs?

Originally promoted as one of the first functioning metaverses in Unreal Engine 5, it looks like the now Solana-powered title is more marketed as being a battle royale game with hero shooter elements, announcing the start of “A New Era” in early November 2024, when the new chain was initially revealed before a bigger announcement with an official trailer came along.

As a result of the chain switch and overall development focus, holders of $CYBER and the project’s NFTs should be aware of a couple of changes.

All existing $CYBER token holders will be able to swap their tokens to the upcoming new $CYB token at a 1:10 ratio, “preserving the value they’ve built and seamlessly transitioning to the new ecosystem.” How the token swap process works does not yet seem to be known, but what is known is that the TGE for CYB is scheduled for January 2025, so holders will want to follow the official socials closely in the following weeks to make sure they’re ready for the transition.

Holders of CityNFTs will be able to transform their assets into MegaCorp NFTs, while CitizenNFTs will upgrade into Operator NFTs. If you hold any of these assets, you will still continue to get rewards until the TGE takes place. Afterwards, you can look forward to token and NFT staking on Solana, though even holding then is said to bring “ongoing benefits within the Solana ecosystem.” That being said, an NFT bridge will likely be available in the future to allow you to switch over to the new NFTs to benefit from new earning mechanisms.

What Is Cyberpunk City?

Cyberpunk City is an upcoming free to play battle royale and hero shooter that is said to deliver AAA-quality third-person and first-person cross-platform gameplay on PC and consoles. Players will choose from a selection of varied operators to play with. Operators are playable characters divided into 3 classes with differing abilities: Assault, Tank, and Support.

As you battle it out across various environments, you will get to complete dynamic map objectives that could give you the upper hand in achieving victory by awarding you with rewards such as power-ups, consumables, or rare in-game items. These optional tasks might even reward you with $CYB tokens and exclusive tradable items.

According to the roadmap, an alpha demo is planned to launch in Q2 2025 in the form of a training map that will let players get to grips with the core mechanics. A deathmatch mode will follow in Q3 2025, while Q4 should see the demo get more features for players to enjoy ahead of a closed beta launch in the first half of 2026. The roadmap on the official website however lists the closed beta as launching in the second half of 2025, with the first half seeing the game listed on the Epic Games Store.
