Boss Fighters Heads Into Open Beta on August 30th

After hosting a couple of playtests for more than a year, asymmetrical PC/VR blockchain game Boss Fighters is now finally ready to head into open beta on August 30th at 6 PM UTC, with the milestone being commemorated by the final Mystery Box sale a day before this version goes live. Let’s take a look at what you can get in this upcoming sale before diving into the details for the web3 game’s public launch.

What Is the BETA Countdown Loot Drop?

NOTE: The Loot Drop sale has been moved to September 5th, 3pm UTC.

The BETA Countdown Loot Drop is the last sale of Mystery Boxes before the latest release. This sale begins on Thursday, August 29th at 3 PM UTC and will give the blockchain gaming community the only chance of buying two types of Mystery Boxes: Toxic Cola Mystery Box and Feeling Toasty Mystery Box.

Both types include the FLEX Currency, as well as new animated Skins and Showrunner Contracts. Every lootbox comes with 3 slots. The first two slots can contain either Fighter skins, weapon skins, gadgets, or maybe even a Showrunner Contract. The type of box you get will determine whether you get items from the Toxic Cola or Feeling Toasty collections. As for the third slot, that one is guaranteed to give you FLEX Currency, a hard currency that the studio is offering as part of a sale for the very first time. Both types of boxes give you a 40% chance of receiving 3610 FLEX, a 50% chance of getting 6250 FLEX, and a 10% chance for 12990 FLEX. While the amount of FLEX contained in each box will vary, what is known is that you will be able to use this currency to recharge Badges and lock the perks that you want to keep when using the item and NFT merging feature. Players will be able to purchase FLEX directly through the game’s store, but it will also be possible to earn it through in-game events, Trophy Road, the upcoming Season Pass, as well as in matches with a special Value Perk.

Next to these goodies is even more goodies, as according to the official Medium post, every buyer of at least one of these Mystery Boxes is getting a special bonus in the form 160 Common in-game varied assets, so you’ll be getting all sorts of Fighters, Bosses, gadgets and more to use, merge, and craft with to your heart’s content. They also mention another bonus, but one for the future, and that includes “an opportunity to enhance your $BFT yield” by playing with a skin fully equipped from a certain collection, so getting yourself completely decked out with one of these two new collections will be rewarded. This is because the new skins from these collections feature a Mythic Value Perk that will give you a “major boost” when the game’s economy officially launches later in fall this year. They will also be the web3 game’s first ever animated skins, and you can get a glimpse of how they look like in this tweet.

How to Participate in Sale + Supply & Price

The sale opens up on August 29th at 3 PM UTC to whitelisted users first. To be among the first users to gain access to the sale, you need to own a Boss Fighters digital collectible. If you do, you’re automatically whitelisted, and a confirmation email should come your way a day before the sale starts to let you know you’re whitelisted. Which I guess is basically a kind of snapshot. So yeah, get ready for scam emails to come your way too, probably. Members of the game’s exclusive partner communities are also whitelisted. There don’t seem to be any details on how long the whitelist phase lasts, so if you’d like to get priority access then you essentially have to own an asset before August 28th to get whitelisted. You can find the game’s digital assets listed on Open Loot, Fractal, and Magic Eden, but the assets you buy will have to be in your Open Loot account to qualify.

As for the sale itself, there will be 500 Feeling Toasty Mystery Boxes and 500 Toxic Cola Mystery Boxes up for grabs. Both types cost $300 per Mystery Box, with the prices said to be at a 25% discount due to it being the last sale before public beta, and their dedicated pages give you a better overview of the items you have a chance of getting.

What’s New in Open Beta Test Mode?

The Open Beta Test Mode, which launches on August 30th, will be playable 24/7, unlike previous playtests which were available in limited time frames. Next to being open to all for a longer period of time, Boss Fighters is getting updated with a new map, an overhauled reward system, faster matchmaking times, an in-depth stat system for both characters and items, and various community-requested bug fixes. An .apk build “for playing as the Boss on Oculus Quest” is also planned to arrive, but more detailed info on this launch will be available in the August 30th patch notes that will be posted on the game’s official Discord server. During this phase, the developers are “counting on your feedback to help us refine the experience” before the game is officially fully released. This also means that this is the last milestone before the in-game economy goes live.

Next to all the new features, players can look forward to play to earn rewards, allowing you to earn FLEX and digital collectibles during this beta period by completing at least 3 matches every day. If you create a 7-day streak, you’ll be rewarded with a digital collectible, while the days before that prize give you increasing amounts of FLEX. Getting a 7-day streak will also let you enter a special raffle featuring 300 BLITZ Weapon Digital Collectible Skins, and if you craft 4 different Mythic items during those 7 days, then you get to take part in another raffle awarding 100 BLITZ Boss Digital Collectibles.
