The developers of web3 RPG Chumbi Valley have announced the start of Season 1 for their new gamified NFT staking program: Valley Adventures.
What Is Valley Adventures?
Valley Adventures is an NFT staking program in which holders of Genesis Chumbi can stake their NFTs to send them on various quests to earn rewards such as Lucky Stars, a non-transferrable currency which can be used to buy exclusive NFTs of varying rarity from the program’s dedicated shop. Quests last real world hours and completing them could also be rewarded with bonus rare NFTs next to the Lucky Stars currency.
This gamified staking system was previously announced back in May this year as the official mini-game for the Chumbi Valley universe. Holders of Genesis Chumbi simply have to connect their MetaMask wallet to the program’s official website linked in the Season 1 announcement and then stake them in the “My Chumbi” section to make them usable in this gamified experience, allowing you to start sending them on various adventures on the Polygon network. You can unstake your NFTs at any time as there is no lockup period. As other Polygon-compatible wallets haven’t been officially tested, the team cannot confirm if you’ll run into any issues for now, but full support might be added in the future. The official guide for the first season does also mention that any “hardware that can connect through MetaMask should be fine.”
Each quest or adventure has its own story description that ties into a bigger theme while displaying the guaranteed rewards you can get alongside the chances of accruing other prizes. These quests are available for a limited time, and some are only available to specific types of Chumbi.
What Can You Do in Season 1 of Valley Adventures?
This first season for the new gamified NFT staking program started on October 2nd and will run for 21 days, during which you can have your Genesis Chumbi embark on various adventures to earn you Lucky Stars and potentially other goodies that you supposedly “won’t be able to obtain in any other way,” according to the Discord announcement.
Genesis Chumbi NFT holders who stake and send their NFTs on adventures could possibly even earn $CHMB tokens. There are 6 prize bags that each contain 2.5 million $CHMB tokens, and you only have a 1% chance of getting one in each adventure. Only one bag can be won by one wallet address, so if you’re lucky enough to get 2.5 million tokens (valued around ~$520 at the time of writing), then you will be able to claim your token-packed bag at the end of the season. While $CHMB tokens do not have a use case for this season, the official guide teases that future seasons could add some token utility.
Every quest takes 24 hours to complete, so if a quest has less than 24 hours remaining before it expires or gets locked, you won’t be able to send your Chumbi on that adventure. The start of this season features 5 adventures at the time of writing, 2 of which are available to all Genesis Chumbi NFT owners, while the rest require owning specific types to do them. Quests usually get locked after around 6 days, and a new quest should quickly follow after one gets closed down, with the new one continuing the narrative of the previous mission. According to the official guide, you can look forward to new quests popping up at the 7th and 14th days of the season.
Once your Chumbi completes a quest, you’ll be able to reveal one of 3 different outcomes: “Lucky”, “Good”, or “Unlucky”. Basically, you get more Lucky Stars for getting a better outcome, with the “Good” and “Lucky” results also giving you a chance to earn a non-NFT Chumberry or a rare NFT. Each adventure not only concludes with loot claiming, but also with a short summary of the journey your Chumbi went on to finish the quest.
After each completed quest, your Chumbi will need 6 hours to properly recover and be ready to go on the next adventure. If you want to speed up the recovery process, then you need to have the earnable Chumberries, so if you’re lucky enough to get one, you can then use the berry to decrease a Chumbi’s recovery time by 2 hours. There are also different types of Chumberries, and some Chumbi’s might not want to eat specific types, so River and Spirit Chumbis won’t want to eat a Flame Chumberry, but Flame, Crystal, Creature, and Void Chumbis will be happy to take your offer.
Lucky Stars earned in this season will carry on over to the next season, while current items available in the shop could end up getting replaced with new NFTs when a new season starts. The items that you can find in the web-based shop now will be available for the whole season, and a bit after the season is over as well. There will always be a break between seasons to give the studio time to gather feedback and potentially add in new features to enjoy in new seasons.
If you don’t own a Genesis Chumbi NFT but would like to participate, then you can buy one on the Polygon network using OpenSea, where the floor price is 0.149 $ETH (~$350) at the time of writing. Owning one should also give you higher in-game reward benefits for the upcoming play to earn RPG Chumbi Valley, scheduled to launch in beta this Q4 2024.
