It has been five months since Faraway Gaming Studios bought the Legends of The Mara (LOTM) from Yuga Labs. Now, the gaming studio has announced the end of a key component in the LOTM universe: vessels.
According to a tweet posted on 2nd September on Farawaygg’s X handle,
“🥚Vessel Hatching Update🥚
This is a reminder that Vessel Hatching into Mara will be permanently disabled on September 30, 2024. This means that after this date, there will be no more Mara created.”
The update represents an important development, which should bring existing unhatched vessel holders into action as the incubation period closes.
How Does the Update Impact Otherside?
Otherside is a connected world to Faraway and it has Otherdeeds, which are essential to claim land in the Otherside universe. The land NFT collection has a unique blend of environment and sediment, along with some powerful artifacts that determine the rarity of the land owned by the players.
The Faraway vessel hatching update is connected to Otherside, as users have the option to expand their Otherdeed assets to a better and bigger version. In another tweet on Otherspace’s X handle, the Otherside community is instructed to expand Otherdeed assets before the deadline.
This is important because expanded Otherdeed assets can be converted into vessels to hatch Mara, which won’t be possible after 30th September. Hence, users still holding onto Otherdeed NFTs must expand and take advantage of conversion benefits while they are still available.
All About Mara NFTs and their Utility
Legends of the Mara (LOTM) is a collection based strategy game where users are required to claim a vessel leading to character development, discover its potential, and create a path forward in the game. Characters are categorized into Kodas Kodamaras, representing the primary keepers in the Otherside universe.
As Kodas progress, they turn into vessels, which are hatched to release Mara. With the right catalyst players can advance Maras into highly skilled Kodamara. So, a player’s journey while beginning from Koda progresses to becoming Kodamaras.
So, in essence, Maras are uncatalyzed Kodamaras. Their abilities are dependent on the vessel from which they hatch. At present, LOTM has three types of vessels: Hunter, Farmer, and Enchanter.
Mara, also called Oda, are beginner workers who work as hunters, farmers, and enchanters. Users must burn their vessel to gain in-game playable Mara, which is also an ERC-721 token. These Maras are a part of a stand-alone NFT collection.
Current Utility of Mara NFTs
Players must own at least one Mara NFT to play the game. Their gameplay depends on the role of the NFT, ranging between hunter, farmer, and enchanter. As a result, ownership of Mara NFT limits the player’s function to the preconnected attribute.
Hunter Mara are defenders of the Otherdeed and Otherside universe and they also fight Shattered. Farmer Mara are responsible for tending to Otherdeed lands and farm sediment fragments. These fragments can be used for the Catalysis process, facilitating the evolution of Mara to Kodamara.
Enchantment Mara is used for boosting the skills of every asset connected with the Otherdeed Camp. They ensure hunters hunt better and farmers farm better. Enchanter Maras cannot perform in a vacuum; hence, they need to be used to build a better team of Maras.
Future Utility of Mara NFTs
Adding to the existing utilities of Mara NFTs, players can also trade ad sell the sediments harvested in the farming process. Users will be allowed to convert groups of sediments into ERC-1155 NFT, which can be traded on eligible NFT marketplaces, including Magic Eden and Opensea.
