In celebration of the early access launch of Everdawn: Champions on the Epic Games Store last month, developer Nexus Interactive has now introduced the Open Beta Season Battle Pass to keep players further engaged in the free to play web3 title by earning daily rewards across a free and premium track, with the latter featuring NFTs.
How Does the Everdawn: Champions Season Battle Pass Work?
As is traditionally the case with these seasonal progression systems, the Season Battle Pass in the open beta version of turn-based strategy game Everdawn: Champions comes with 2 tracks you can progress through: the Free track, and the Premium track. There are a total of 80 levels to progress through across both tracks, earning rewards for each level in the free track that you unlock, while the Premium track features rewards at certain levels. To progress through these tracks, you need to gain Battle Pass XP, which you can do by completing various daily challenges. There are 3 challenges to beat every day and they include gameplay activities such as playing 1 match, winning a match, and so on, with some missions possibly giving you more XP than usual.
In the Free track, you can earn non-tradable, account-locked assets such as silver coins, cosmetics, cards, and packs, with a Gold Errant Golem Skin, which seems to be an NFT, waiting for those who make it all the way to the end of this track. Players who choose to buy the Premium Battle Pass however will get to earn NFT rewards by reaching certain level milestones, instantly unlocking 2 Gold Packs, a Legendary card, and a Heroic Opal Golem Skin. You also get 15% bonus XP on top of what you manage to earn each day, meaning Premium Pass players have a chance to progress through this season’s battle pass faster than players who stick with the free track. Overall, the Premium track contains 1500 Crowns, 4 bonus Gold Packs, a full Emerald cosmetic set (Golem, Ornament, Cardback), and 4 Heroic Gold cards (1 from each faction).
Buying the Premium Battle Pass costs 1500 Crowns, which is the game’s premium currency, but for its initial launch period you can actually get access to the paid track at a 20% discount for 1200 Crowns for a limited time, after which it will cost 1500 Crowns. You can buy Crowns and the Premium Battle Pass by heading to the game’s official store found in the browser-based companion game, Everdawn: Questing Realms. Opening the store from in-game will also take you to the same page. The price of 1200 Crowns is $12, which can be paid for using a credit/debit card but also in crypto using USDC on the Base chain.
According to the Medium announcement, every Battle Pass will last a couple of months, with each designed to reward players who play every day. The developers have teased that they have some announcements coming up soon that will reveal more ways for players to grind even more. They’ve also mentioned that those who own multiple Champions can look forward to seeing “a more defined value proposition coming your way.”
About Everdawn: Champions
Everdawn: Champions is a tactical turn-based trading card game where players deploy cards on a 3D hexagonal battlefield and engage in strategic PvP gameplay. Each player has their own non-controllable golem, and the goal is to destroy the enemy’s golem to win the match. Place units to capture control points to have your golem pull the opponent’s golem towards your side. Use one of 2 different starter decks and earn card packs as you play while building your own 25-card decks better suited to your playstyle and strategies.
The web3-enhanced game, previously known as Aradena: Battlegrounds, can be downloaded on Windows PCs through the Epic Games Store as a free to play title. A mobile version is in development and is coming soon. You’ll have to create a game account to start playing, and you will be rewarded with a free card pack for doing so, which you can claim by heading to your profile’s inventory in the browser-based companion game. You can claim another free card pack by heading to the Battle Pass section in-game and clicking on the first level of the free track. Each card pack contains 5 cards, and once you play 3 matches, you’ll be rewarded with more card packs as the developer’s way of saying thank you for trying out this early version of their blockchain title.
Account creation is done outside the game, and while you do have the option to sign in with a Google account on their browser-based game, it currently seems that you should register with an email the old school way instead in order to have the same account for both games, as the in-game login system asks players to input their password to sign in. Connecting your wallet to the web dApp works too, as that will actually let you complete your profile by letting you add in your username, email, and password. If you’ve already logged into the Questing Realms through the Google sign-in option, then you’ll just have to use the “Forgot Password” option to get one set up. A potential slight inconvenience for new players, so hopefully we’ll see social sign-in options added to the game in the future. Aside from that, if you’re looking for a tactical web3 gaming experience that can be enjoyed as a web2 game with the option to own and trade cosmetic NFTs, then you may want to jump right in and start grinding through the newly-introduced Season Battle Pass by playing through ranked matches.
