After hosting a 24-hour stress test at the end of September, web3 MMORPG Domi Online is back in action this November 23rd at 6 PM UTC in the form of a Public Playtest that is longer and packed with plenty more content than the last session.
What’s Included in Domi Online Public Playtest?
While not representative of the full release, this playtest represents the most complete version to be publicly revealed today, and will let players explore the entire mainland of the game’s fantasy world for free. This was not the case in the previous test, which only featured a limited part of the whole map. Some of the locations that are said to be included with this upcoming playtest include Saint’s Rest, Vyorkur Mountains, Aeloan Mizzar, Desert Outskirts, Dreaded Swamps, Stannfyr Capital, and much more. The environments and visuals have been updated, and players will be able to check out player housing across 3 districts in the capital city of Stannfyr to get a glimpse of the team’s plans for expanding the housing feature.
You can see the significant difference in the size of the playable map in the image below, so if you like exploring, you can look forward to doing a ton of that very soon! As you explore, you will be accompanied by various immersive soundtracks, such as “Outside the Walls” that you can listen to in this X post.
Next to venturing out across this massive map solo or with friends, players will also have no restrictions to combat, quests, or professions, meaning you will have full access to all levels, skills, and professions during this phase. This lets players make the most of this playtest and see everything the developers have to offer so far while further helping them improve and finetune the blockchain gaming experience. There will also be leaderboards enabled for players to climb in, according to a more recent tweet, which teases that there may be rewards up for grabs for those who rank to the top! This could mean that players will be able to play to earn $DOMI, the game’s core utility token that recently migrated over to Beam, a subnet on Avalanche.
The game’s design philosophy is based around having no level caps and no skill caps, so this playtest is said to be a “proof of concept” of that kind of game design, which puts you into a dangerous world where dying is said to come with “real consequences.”
The team is looking for players to provide constructive feedback to help them fix any problems that may be still present in order to properly prepare for the official Open Alpha launch. No details on when Open Alpha will go live, but if you want to help the studio make that release an enjoyable experience for both traditional and crypto gamers, you can head on over to the game’s official Discord server and use dedicated channels to report any issues. You can even make reports directly in-game by pressing F12.
To participate in this playtest, head on over to the game’s official website where you can download the Windows launcher and begin pre-downloading to make yourself ready to jump in straight away when the playtest starts. While the team has stated that this will be longer than the previous test session, a specific timeframe was not given at the time of writing.
How Is Development on Domi Online Open Alpha Going?
Development on the upcoming Open Alpha version of Domi Online seems to be going at a nice, steady pace, with the developers posting progress reports almost every week, showcasing various early images while keeping us up to date with what part of the web3 game has been worked on.
Earlier this month, the team revealed that some of the things they’ve been working on include solving networking issues and upgrading to the Unity 6 engine, while introducing camels to the new desert area with their own dynamic behavior, and more. Another report from this month mentioned more networking updates, but also environmental ones, with most of the work focused on Aeloan Mizzar, which is referred to as a “significant location” in this game that will include a new stronghold for the elf queen, “offering an even more captivating adventure for those daring enough to enter her realm!” This is all work for the Open Alpha release, but here’s hoping we get to see all off this progress in this new second stress test as well!
