The developers of trading card game Kanoi have teamed up with Immutable to bring their Japanese IP to the growing Immutable zkEVM ecosystem.
This will help the studio onboard more players to the game while they utilize the network’s features to provide a more accessible experience. According to Immutable’s partnership announcement, this web3 title is being developed by an ex-Pokémon team backed by leading Japanese VCs, and that the main differentiator with their project is “the synergy between game and IP” as TCG gameplay helps drive further player engagement with the IP, “[fostering] player attachment.”
Takeshi Kuroda, the CEO of gmlabs, Inc., the parent company of the KANOI studio to which he is a founder, said the following in the announcement:
“We at KANOI are truly honored to join Immutable, the largest game ecosystem in the web3 space. As a project originating from Japan, we aim to offer Immutable users an unprecedented and exhilarating experience.”
The past few weeks have been quite significant for the game’s team, as they have made some important strategic partnerships to help them further expand and grow their web3 title. Back in June they joined the Anime Foundation, who are forming an open ecosystem of web2 and web3 partners powered by $MANGA to support global anime and manga culture. Near the end of July they formed a partnership with Animoca Brands Japan, though an official press release for it came just this week.
With all that being said, let’s take a look at the project itself and see how you could potentially win an airdrop of its core $KANOI token.
Complete Quests for $KANOI Airdrop
Anyone interested in winning a $KANOI airdrop has a number of ways to do so before the token goes live. The first TCG Pack collection was teased to be almost ready earlier this month, and that anyone who buys it will be able to unpack a random set of cards while getting a “substantial” airdrop of $KANOI tokens as well as the fastest route to unlocking play to earn gameplay.
That won’t be the only way to get an airdrop. In fact, you can already start airdrop farming right now by heading to the game’s official website and pressing the join button that pops up to get a list of quests you can complete to earn points. You’ll have to create an account on the website before doing these quests through the much traditional web2 email address way (no social sign in options from what I can see).
After you set up your account, you may also want to connect your X account as well as your wallet through the Base network to gain access to all of the currently available quests. You can connect your wallet using MetaMask, Wallet Connect, or Immutable Passport.
The quest page has categories for 4 types of quests: SNS Quests, NFT Quests, Game Quests, and Special Quests. NFT Quests are not yet available at the time of writing, and all of these airdrop quests will disappear at some point closer to TGE, which doesn’t have an exact date set at the time of writing.
SNS Quests will display once you connect your X account, after which you can begin following accounts, posting tweets, as well as liking and retweeting tweets posted by the game’s main profile. Special Quests give you points for joining the official Discord server, subscribing to their YouTube channel, and watching the trailers they have published so far. Game Quests reward you for winning a certain number of matches, starting from 5 matches and going all the way up to 1000.
NFT Quests can be viewed once you attach your wallet to the account on the website and have it set as the primary wallet. These are not yet available, but as the name suggests, this type revolves around owning and holding NFT packs and cards. Points are awarded for each NFT pack and card that you own, with rarer cards awarding more points. While each pack will be worth 1500 points, cards are divided into 6 different rarities, with common cards valued at 1000 points, while the ultra rare ones bring 5000 points. You also get points for buying packs in the private sale / pre-sale.
It’s important to note that the points earned from NFT Quests are not the same as the points earned in other quest types. NFT Quests uses ‘NPOINTs’ that will allow holders to get a $KANOI airdrop from an exclusive $KANOI allocation pool.
About Kanoi
Kanoi is a free to play anime trading card game that aims to build phygital experiences in order to allow players to collect and own detailed physical and digital cards. You can start playing it right now through your web browser to farm airdrop points by winning enough matches to reach quest milestones.
In the future though, when the $KANOI token is eventually live, players will get to enjoy play to earn gameplay where winning matches in the Casual PvP mode is rewarded with $KANOI, with the number of token rewards varying based on your rank but also on whether your deck consists of any NFT cards. Become one of the highest-ranked players each season to earn more $KANOI while also ranking high in various PvP tournaments and beating the boss in the higher levels of Tower Battle, a PvE game mode where you defeat bosses on each new floor to win increasingly better rewards. This mode will only be available to those who own a Tower Pass according to version 1.1. of the whitepaper, but details on what that is do not seem to be available at the time of writing. Players however can already purchase a Premium Battle Pass, which is an in-game item that unlocks premium rewards for Season 0 that include various different cards. The free tier lets players earn ZENI, an off-chain, in-game coin designed improve the web2 onboarding experience and thus enable players to easily buy various in-game items as non-NFTs.
Next to all these gameplay modes, the team has recently shared info on an upcoming new mode: the Jackpot mode. In this PvE mode, players pay an entry fee using $KANOI to play against a random AI, so if you lose, you won’t get anything, but if you win, you get back your entry fee and earn more $KANOI. It doesn’t stop there though. If you win the match, you will have the option to risk your winnings by putting them all into a slot machine for a chance at winning even more tokens. This mode is said to be made together with “Japan’s most famous pachinko (gambling) amusement company” according to the recent Discord announcement, and it’s set to go live either in late September or early October. The announcement also teases the community to “keep your eyes out in the skies early September as things may drop,” so it may not be long before the $KANOI token gets officially listed.
