Competitive 3v3 mobile basketball game Rumble Kong League (RKL) is now live in Playtest Season 1 – Ground Zero for one week from August 21st to August 28th.
What’s New in Closed Beta Season 1?
Unlike previous test sessions, this new playtest marks the start of a series of seasonal playtests for participants to share valuable feedback in while potentially earning rewards along the way.
Anyone who tested this web3 title before will find that the core gameplay loop has undergone various improvements. The experience is said to have been enhanced and made more dynamic and competitive with the addition of 4 new special abilities you’ll want to properly learn to use to your tactical advantage: Tackle, Force Shield, Super Dunk, and Rush Hour.
New Special Abilities
Tackle is a defensive move that has you charge at your opponent to take the ball from them and send them flying in the process. It requires good timing to successfully pull off in order to avoid opening up your defense to an easy shot, but could possibly be an important ability to having a strong defense. Another defensive game-changing ability is the Force Shield, which completely protects your bucket from incoming shots for 10 seconds, causing any attempts to bounce the ball back for the defending team to pick up and start a quick counter. If you want that counter attack to come with guaranteed points for your side, then you will want to use the new Super Dunk ability, which will send you flying for a big slam dunk to make the crowd go wild. Last but not least is Rush Hour, which is basically a dash ability that lets you quickly teleport through the wall of defenders for a good chance at earning more points for your team.
While all 4 special abilities are available for players to choose from the main menu UI, you can’t actually bring them all to a match. You can only pick 1 defensive and 1 offensive ability.
New Map & Adaptive Difficulty
Players can test out these new abilities on Athlos, a new beach court level. The first 2 games against the AI that you play during this beta test are designed to feel easy thanks to the introduction of adaptive difficulty. This system is designed to give you a starting point from which you can get to grips with the gameplay mechanics, after which the AI will increase its skill level to give you an increasingly-challenging experience in accordance with your performance.
How to Earn $FAME Points
During this test phase, players can earn a soft currency that is used to open reward bags. These reward bags contain in-game playstyles as well as points for the upcoming $FAME token. $FAME points will be transferred over to the game’s Hall Of Fame SocialFi platform, now made possible thanks to the new option that lets you link your Twitter profile to the game, so playtesters will want to use the same Twitter profile for both the platform and the web3 title to have their points successfully carry over.
Full details on everything included in this closed beta test can be found in this official thread on X.
How to Participate
To participate in this season though, you need to be a Kong/Rookie holder. If you are, you can verify your NFT ownership in the game’s official Discord server in order to gain access to the kong-holders-only channel containing the links you need to download the latest beta build to start playing on Android and iOS. Both RKL Rookies and Rumble Kongs can be bought from OpenSea on the Ethereum network, with the floor price for an RKL Rookie being 0.0248 ETH (~$65), while the cheapest Rumble Kong listing is 0.189 ETH (~$496) at the time of writing. Both collections come with a 10,000 total supply, and each NFT in them is a playable character granting you exclusive early access to what will eventually be a free to play title. The main difference between the 2 collections, aside from appearance, is that Rumble Kongs have unique traits and significant boosts to 4 stats: Shooting, Finish, Defense, and Vision. The boost system however is still in development, so while the NFT boosts are active for this playtest, the way boosts work may end up eventually changing in the future.
Creator Contest
During this playtest week, players can also take part in a Creator Contest awarding USDT to the top 3 most creative tweets. You can make a thread post, a gameplay clip, a meme, highlights, or any creative content. To enter, you will need to create a X/Twitter post related to the playtest and use the #PlayRKL hashtag while tagging the @rumblekongs X account. The contest closes at the end of August 28th ET time, and you can submit as many entries as you want. The winner of the contest will be rewarded with $500 USDT, while 2nd place will get $200 USDT, and 3rd place will receive $50 USDT.
