After teasing a new Telegram game at The Open Summit as part of Asia Blockchain Summit 2024, developer Monarch Nascent has now officially launched Genopets: Pixelton Arena in beta, allowing anyone to enjoy old school gameplay for free while participating in a play to airdrop campaign!
What Is Genopets: Pixelton Arena?
Made by the same studio behind Solana-based move to earn game Genopets, Pixelton Arena is a turn-based game in which players engage in PvP battles using their own pet randomly generated based on your personality. It’s available for free on mobile devices as a Telegram mini app, making it easily accessible to a wide range of audiences, with the link to the game available in this tweet.
This Web3 title sports retro pixelated visuals to give players that nostalgic feeling of old school gaming as you level up your cute pet by playing PvP matches.
Commemorating this beta launch, the CEO of Monarch Nascent, Albert Chen, said the following in a press release:
“Telegram is the perfect platform for releasing our social PvP battle game, Genopets: Pixelton Arena. The seamless integration into a messaging platform we use every day to communicate with our friends creates an opportunity for us to reach players where they are and introduce a bit of competition and reward to their daily conversations.”
Let’s dive into the specifics of this game’s mechanics and learn how to play to airdrop!
Gameplay
When opening the game for the first time, you will be asked to complete a personality quiz containing 5 questions used to create a pet that’s similar to you. Afterwards you can rename your Genopet as well as view its HP, ATK, DEF, and SPD stats before playing. Every pet also comes with 3 different moves to use in battle next to a basic Poke attack. These abilities can vary based on the pet the game generated. I’m assuming the personality questions are what influence the moves your pet has. In my case, I got the following abilities: Chomp, Fortify, and Karate Kombat. Each comes with a certain cooldown after being used, with Chomp used to deal significant damage to the opponent’s pet, while Fortify increases your pet’s defense stat. Karate Kombat is a special ability that can be used later on in the match to deal huge amounts of damage and ultimately win the match. Special abilities in general require making enough successful attacks during a match to fill up a status meter that allows you to use your ultimate power.
Once you’re ready to get going, simply head back to the main screen to start a battle against a friend or a random player, with the former option letting you easily send an invite to anyone on Telegram to play with you. If you choose to play against a random opponent, the game should quickly match you up with a random pet of the same or similar level. In each battle, you have unlimited time to decide which ability you’d like to use before it’s the opponent’s turn. A couple of back and forth turns later, and if you end up defeating the opposing pet, you’ll be rewarded with Energy, which is used to level up your pet and also help you climb the global leaderboard. You may get a small amount of Energy from losses as well, and leveling up increases the pet’s 4 stats. Over time, the game will let your pet learn new moves, giving you the option to choose whether you’d like your pet to learn a new ability or not. Learning a new move requires replacing an existing one, unless you have an available slot, which you should have early on.
Tickets
While you can play without Tickets, you’ll want to have them if you want to earn Energy. Each battle consumes 1 Ticket (including battles with friends), and if you run out of the 3 Tickets given for the day, you can earn more by inviting friends as well as by doing various social tasks, such as joining the Genopets Telegram community and announcement channels, downloading the main Genopets mobile app, following the game’s social media accounts on X and others, and more. If you end up completing all the tasks and running out of Tickets, then you’ll just have to wait for the next day, as the game awards players with 3 free Tickets a day. If you don’t want to wait, then you can also buy 1 Ticket for 25 Stars, Telegram’s own in-app currency introduced in June this year. You can get Stars by buying them with real money as an in-app purchase, with 50 Stars being the lowest package available for $0.99.
How to Play to Airdrop
According to the official announcement, players can look forward to winning airdrops by ranking on the Energy Points leaderboard. Basically, win as many matches using Tickets as you can to try and get lots of Energy for a chance at earning various rewards. The leaderboard displays the top 100 players with the highest number of Energy Points, so you will probably want to rank among the top 100 to win prizes.
Details on rewards have not been revealed at the time of writing, and there is no specific deadline to the end of this campaign either, but if you like playing their flagship move to earn game, then you will probably want to try and win the airdrops from this cute and fun Telegram game, as they will likely include tokens and assets you can use for their main mobile app which just recently got updated to v1.1 to introduce Challenges, Energy 2.0, and more. Even on its own, Genopets: Pixelton Arena is an enjoyable Telegram game for fans of old school turn-based games looking to play some quick strategic PvP matches.
