Play to Earn in Somnis Open Beta Launching on August 13th

Following the end of the pass-gated closed beta, gaming ecosystem Overtake has announced that the open beta of casual lane-based RTS Somnis is launching on Immutable on August 13th for Android and iOS devices via the Play Store and App Store respectively. This means that everyone will be able to jump in and start competing to earn the upcoming $OVT token.

Open Beta Events

Before this testing phase begins, the developers have launched a Zealy Airdrop campaign featuring 100 Mystery Boxes up for grabs for the top participants. These Mystery Boxes contain NFT cards that could help you win the upcoming tournament taking place during this new test phase.

For the first week of open beta, from August 13th to August 19th, players can look forward to 3 major events to earn rewards in. Among these is a First Download event, where the first players to download the Web3 title can get a reward multiplier of up to 15% on a first come, first served basis. Downloading on the first day of beta could get you a 15% multiplier, while downloading on the 2nd and 3rd day comes with a 10% multiplier. If you miss these first 3 days, then you still have a chance of getting a 5% multiplier from the 4th to 7th day.

Perhaps more interesting than the download event is a simple 7-day Daily Check-In event which is said to actually feature up to $500 worth of items up for grabs. It’s not specifically stated what items you exactly earn, but you’ll probably want to check in daily to make the most out of it if you want to top the weekly leaderboards.

Speaking of leaderboards, players can look forward to competing in weekly AP tournaments, with the first week said to be a special one as it will feature 10x rewards to celebrate the grand opening, and only this first week of beta will be the one to feature this big of a multiplier. There will also be a survey that players can complete to earn 5000 AP (Achievement Points).

Based on this above image from the announcement, it looks like 1 million AP will be the standard weekly reward pool. AP basically represents points that will be used to redeem the $OVT token, which will be the gaming platform’s main token with utility across various games part of the ecosystem, including Somnis and two other games that are also set to release this year from in-house game studios: Golden Guardians, and The Red One: Occultation. With $OVT, you will be able to buy various NFT items to use in-game. For this mobile title in particular, that means trading a variety of character cards.

Aside from playing this open beta, you can acquire AP for a better chance of gaining more $OVT tokens by doing POP (Proof of Participation) and Daily Quests, with the links to those included in this tweet.

What Is Somnis?

Somnis: Rumble Rush is a casual mobile strategy game similar to Clash Royale, so if you enjoy lane-based 1v1 PvE and PvP gameplay where you deploy units to march on towards destroying enemy structures, then you might like this blockchain-powered variant. A sneak peek of open beta gameplay is available in this YouTube short to visually give you a better idea of what to expect. Based on that, the game takes place in a fantasy setting and has you build a deck of varied units that can be levelled up to acquire new special skills and improve various card stats. The footage teases 3-lane and 5-lane maps, and it looks like you’ll get to face some boss fights as well, meaning that you’ll not only have to destroy enemy structures at the opposite side of the map, but a large boss as well in a limited amount of time. The main focus however will likely be on the PvP matches through which you’ll rank to the top of the weekly leaderboards to earn AP, and eventually $OVT.

After a month of open beta testing, you can look forward to the Somnis League Tournament. No details on that are currently available, but according to the official Medium post for the opening event, after this beta phase is over, you can expect to see seasonal tournaments that will feature similar reward distribution as the closed beta test did.
