Free to play turn-based tactics game Shardbound has a new limited time event underway: The Queen’s Challenge, giving the playerbase time until September 2nd, 11 AM PT to collectively reach 2000 PvP matches for various rewards.
Event Details
The Queen is looking for the best Rangers to join her new army, and in order to help her do so, players are challenged with accruing 2000 PvP matches from August 29th, 11 AM PT to September 2nd, 11 AM PT. According to the official post, matches in Ranked mode count, and so do matches started from the Event Hub, with the latter accessed by clicking the Challenge button.
If the game’s community as a whole reaches this number, the Queen will be happy to reward everyone who took part in this event, with eligible players having 48 hours to then collect their prizes. If this 2000 milestone is not reached in time, then the Queen will keep her reward-packed vault locked away. Perhaps for some other time?
The rewards awaiting to be distributed from her vault include 1000 Shards, 2500 Royal Marks, and 3000 Upgrade Cores.
If you’re looking to get a new unit to add to your deck or to upgrade one you already have, then you’ll want to stack up as many matches as you can during this community-focused event. As the game does not have web3 features yet and is in a beta phase, there is a possibility that player accounts get reset afterwards. Details on whether these rewards will become on-chain assets in the future is not known at the time of writing.
About Shardbound
Shardbound is a free to play collectible tactics game on Immutable zkEVM, available in limited beta on the Epic Games Store. You can gain access by registering with Immutable Passport on the game’s official website, or by using your email address. This will give you a page with a link to the specific store page from which you can download the game and play for free. The game will become downloadable from its official store page on Epic’s platform once it launches into a proper open beta phase later this year, so for now you’ll have to download from a particular page dedicated to limited beta access.
This deckbuilding title revolves around playing strategic 1v1 matches on hexagonal 3D battlefields in which players use various types of cards from their deck to deploy on the map and use to defeat the enemy’s main Commander card. Each Commander is equipped with one Relic granting special abilities, and each deck needs to have one Commander and one Relic. A decent chunk of your deck will likely consist of Unit cards, of which you can have up to 3 placed on the field at the same time. There are both melee and ranged Unit cards, and you can move them about the field to attack your opponent but also to collect Victory Points, which is another method of winning a match. Cards that can’t be controlled are Minions, but they don’t affect the total unit cap either, so you can place as many of them as you want, though they may or may not help you gain a tactical advantage given their uncontrollable nature. What can certainly help you tactically in the way that you’d like are Spell cards, which can not only heal and damage enemies, but can even change the terrain of the map. Last but not least are Equipment cards, which you can add to the cards already deployed on the field to make them even stronger.
If you don’t mind potentially losing your progression, then Shardbound is already an enjoyable fusion of deckbuilding and turn-based strategic gameplay that you can play right now on PC during beta. There is no info on when this playtest will end at the time of writing. If you do end up spending any real money on anything in the in-game store that could be removed from your account after this phase, the developers will refund buyers the full value with an equivalent number of in-game currencies together with some bonus currencies on full launch, according to a message from one of the team members in the official Discord server. In the future you can look forward to a mobile release to let you play tactical matches on the go.
