Champions Tactics prepares to open its doors to the public, inviting players in for play and earn opportunities in this strategic, team-building, auto-battler game.
But in a rather strange choice for a marketing plan, there are no real guides for this game, or for the Forging process, or even for what all of the stats on the Champions mean!
Supposedly the game includes a starting tutorial, so that’s good. And I’ll give you a rundown here of what we do know so far. But, it seems like everyone will just have to figure most things out when the game opens!
What is Champions Tactics?
Champions Tactics is a web3-enabled strategy game from Ubisoft. It runs on the Oasys blockchain and supports two sets of NFTs, Warlords and Champions. Warlords are the original NFTs of Champions Tactics and function as unique PFPs as well as provide early access to future alphas, betas, and mints. You will also receive bonuses to your earnings in-game for holding Warlords NFTs. Warlords are available on several secondary markets including OpenSea, with a current floor of about 0.35 ETH (current value just under $100 USD). There are 9,995 Warlords NFTs in total.
Champions NFTs are what you use for battling. The game sees players assembling a team of three Champions to do battle for them. The Champions appear in-game as painted figurines, with characteristics that match the details of the Champion used. Players can engage in both PvE (not yet available) and PvP combat in this team-building auto-battler game.
Players earn Gold by playing, which is then used to craft and upgrade Champions. The more Warlords and Champions you have, the higher your potential Gold earnings. Champions Tactics will be open to everyone. The game will provide players with free to use, ‘Ethereal’ Champions. But if you want to earn, you will need to hold Champions of your own.
There will also be a quest system available, and some sort of player experience system, though it’s unclear what sort of rewards to expect. Earning in Champions Tactics seems to be built around Forging new, in-demand Champions and selling them to other players.
Champions Tactics runs on the Oasys blockchain. The game will be available as a PC download and you will also need an Ubisoft account to play.
Champions in Champions Tactics
As the name might imply, Champions are the heart of the game. Every Champion is unique, with varying traits, eight different stats, different skills, and a selection of genes that affect their crafting results! The Champions come with a disclaimer that skills, reactive skills, and stat points may change for balancing purposes as they game is still in development.
The initial mint of Champions NFTs saw 75,000 Champions born into the world. With the release of the game will also come the opening of the Forge, where players can spend Gold to create new, unique Champions. You will need to own two Champions to Forge a new Champion. The costs for Forging are based on how many Crafting Charges each NFT has left. Every Champion starts with five Crafting Charges. The more that are used, the more expensive it becomes to use that Champion in the Forge. Initial prices will start at 6,000 Gold per Champion at five Charges. So using two virgin Champions will cost 12,000 Gold total.
With a complex Gene system that includes dominant, recessive, and minor recessive genes, figuring out the best ways to breed / forge new Champions will become a game in of itself! And, as the game meta changes, which Champions are more valuable is likely to change as well. The only worry is the inflation of the Champions market with too many NFTs. Obviously this is somewhat limited by the limited number of Crafting Charges per Champion, but hopefully Champions Tactics will include some sort of Champion recycling system as well.
Players can buy and sell Champions on the official marketplace. Transactions are made with the WOAS, or Wrapped OAS token. You can wrap and unwarp OAS tokens on the Champions Tactics website.
