The Alien Worlds metaverse has just released a new type of proposal system alongside 6 Union DAOs in an effort to innovate in decentralized governance. Let’s take a look at these significant new additions that could pave the way for large-scale projects becoming a considerabel growth aspect of this sci-fi world.
What Is the Alien Worlds Secure Worker Proposal System?
The Worker Proposal System is a new feature previously introduced in April this year that is focused on allowing the community to suggest and create huge gaming experiences within the Alien Worlds metaverse. To do that, the system is designed to consist of 2 key components:
- A verification process for key roles to ensure security and integrity of the system
- An arbiter and escrow system in order for disputes to be handled fairly while projects continue to be developed and executed at a smooth pace.
Verification Process
The verification process requires key roles to complete identity verification using Sumsub, a third-party verification platform. Completing this process requires submitting proof of identity alongside other related documents. This process needs to be done by a small number of users participating in large-scale projects to protect the system from fraudulent activity. Specifically, key roles that need to complete this process include those who are awarded tokens for project completion, custodians managing funds, and neutral third-party arbiters.
Arbiter & Escrow System
An arbiter system is also in place to deliver “neutral third-party oversight” over projects developed using the new proposal system. This means that the project funds of a successful proposal will go to escrow, with an independent arbiter reviewing progress once the project is complete. If all project milestones have been accordingly met but the workers and Union DAOs cannot come to an agreement, then the arbiter has the power to step in and release escrow funds. This should help add a level of protection to workers as the arbiter works to resolve any disputes and ensure development continues smoothly.
Does This System Affect Syndicate DAOs?
This system is said to affect “only a small fraction of explorers” in this ecosystem. The work of Syndicate DAOs and overall daily activities done by the community will continue to operate normally as usual, meaning this system only affects particularly those wanting to work on more complex, larger projects. In order to achieve this distinction properly, the team is introducing Union DAOs, 6 of which have gone live on September 25th.
“This launch is an exciting step toward bridging the gap between decentralized governance and real-world utility. The Worker Proposal System, supported by identity verification and the arbiter, is a bold experiment in creating DAOs that are equipped to handle complex, long-term projects in a transparent, accountable manner.”
The new system comes following community feedback given through a recent survey by developer Dacoco, where players expressed their desire in seeing more transparency over Syndicate proposal processes while showing more interest in seeing community-driven game development. As a response to this feedback, the studio believes it best to introduce this new system together with Union DAOs.
What Are Alien Worlds Union DAOs?
Union DAOs are focused on providing more transparency for proposals on bigger community-made blockchain games. This new DAO system runs alongside existing Syndicate DAOs and is said to foster a “robust framework” for the more ambitious web3 gaming experiences. You can contribute to the future of 6 Union DAOs, large-scale projects, and this ecosystem as a whole right now by staking $TLM tokens to these new organizations using a step-by-step walkthrough linked in this tweet.
These DAOs are funded just like Syndicate DAOs are, so by staking Trillium to Union DAOs you get to increase the amount of DTAP available on that planet in order to fund both types of DAOs, making both Syndicate and Union DAOs depend on each other for collective success. The announcement does clarify though that tokens reserved for Syndicates have not been altered following the launch of this new system. Learn how to become a Union DAO custodian and vote in Union DAO elections in this guide linked in a new X announcement.
It will be interesting to see how this experiment turns out for the Alien Worlds ecosystem. You can get a more in-depth look at the new Union DAOs today, September 27th at 3 PM UTC in an X space featuring Dacoco’s CPO Brendan Sullivan, CTO Dallas Johnson, and CMO Kevin Rose. They will be open to answering any questions as they go in detail on how this new system works.
About Alien Worlds DAOs
Up until recently, the foundation for decentralized governance in Alien Worlds has consisted of Planet Syndicates, who have organized various community events, built mini-games and brought various types of proposals to life, significantly contributing to the future of this sci-fi ecosystem. There are a total of 6 Syndicates, one for each planet, and each of them has 5 Councilors, who are custodians elected by DAO members for a fixed time period to lead the guild and manage its funds. All of these DAOs are powered by blockchain technology, and all of the business-related things they do is kept fully on-chain to ensure trust and security. Specifically, these DAOs use a technology protocol on the WAX blockchain called Antelope, which has a unique feature that makes it possible for members to vote on proposals using a smart contract without congesting the network, allowing full on-chain governance instead of using centralized services and off-chain methods that come with security risks.
More than 100 million $TLM tokens are under control by Syndicates, and the funds have to date been used to fund a variety of community projects. In the latest issue of the Syndicate Underground alone you can see a diverse range of recently approved proposals, including allocation of a total of 90k $TLM to support the pre-opening of a web3 game called Planetary Defense in which NFT owners can use their assets to engage in offensive and defensive battles. Custodians even approved the formation of Tokenized Lore to make it possible for this metaverse to turn into a transmedia franchise, allowing the community to build on top of the foundational lore laid out by sci-fi writer Kevin J. Anderson (co-author of the Dune prequel series, spin-off novelist for Star Wars and more) by writing various new stories that anyone can vote on to decide if they should become canon or not.
The future of Alien Worlds looks to be completely in decentralized control by its community, with developer Dacoco continuously adding in new mechanisms, such as the new proposal system, to give players control and autonomy over the future of this on-chain metaverse, ensuring the ecosystem can prosper in the direction its community wants.
