The makers of Moonray, an action-packed, multiplayer battle arena game, have announced plans to launch their game on PlayStation 5 in 2025.
Sony recently approved the game’s development for PlayStation, paving the way for Moonray to join Off the Grid in this new frontier. We don’t have an official release date yet for Moonray’s debut on the PS5. However, Moonray Studios has promised that the dates for early access and the official PlayStation launch will be announced in the coming months.
It’s unclear exactly if and how blockchain features will be available for console players, but this continued acceptance of blockchain-related games into the Xbox and Playstation spaces is goo sign for things to come!
Hans Andersson, Chief Business Officer (CBO) and co-founder of Moonray Studios, expressed his excitement about bringing the game to a new audience on consoles.
“As a huge fan of arena combat games, I truly hope that Moonray can inspire players to try more games in the genre and that it encourages game developers to make more of them too.”
This expansion into the console market marks a significant step for the game’s developer, Moonray Studios, as they continue to grow their intellectual property (IP) across multiple platforms. Moonray Studios also recently revealed plans to launch a mobile-based auto-battler game in Q1 2025, adding to the reach of the Moonray universe.
Consoles are a huge gaming market. And it’s great to see web3 games getting their foot in the door. Hopefully this will lead to increased acceptance of blockchain technology in gaming, and an increase in the web3 gaming playerbase. And with web3 console games trending in the general gaming news, it seems like we may be on the right path!
What is Moonray?
Moonray is a multiplayer, fast-paced, action battler where players engage in combat solo or with a team. Featuring melee-centric combat, Moonray offers players additional tactical choices with dodging, parries, and some ranged attacks as well. Players will also have access to grappling abilities, allowing them to close distance quickly to their opponents, or try to escape a bad situation.
Moonray offers a variety of game modes. These include 4v4 team battles, 8-man deathmatches, and 1v1 duel modes, as well as objective-based team matches. Players can engage in intense PVP combat, aiming to defeat their opponents and climb the leaderboards. As players progress, they unlock new character skins and earn rewards for their achievements in battle.
Built by Moonray Studios, Moonray is currently available for PC players in the Epic Games store.
Moonray recently began in phase 2 of their alpha playtest, introducing a new game economy that opens the doors for free to play players. Players can earn Milium, the game currency, by playing the game and winning matches. Use Milium to unlock heroes and skins. Impatient players will also be able to purchase Millium directly.
In addition, for the month of October, Moonray is giving everyone access to a free battle pass. Earn rewards by playing including icons, player frames, emotes, and more.
Expanding the Moonray Universe
Aside from gaming, Moonray Studios has ventured into other creative mediums to expand the Moonray IP. Last year, the company released a graphic novel titled Mother’s Skin, which delves into the lore of the Moonray universe. This year, they followed up with a second graphic novel, Echoes of Ascension. Both works were written by renowned comic book artist Brandon Graham, an Eisner Award winner, and are available in over 4,000 comic book stores across North America and the UK. Major retailers, including Midtown Comics and Barnes & Noble, stock the graphic novels.
In addition to these publications, Moonray Studios has partnered with the animation studio ReelFX to create new projects that will further bring the Moonray universe to life. According to Andersson, “Our ultimate goal is to expand the Moonray IP and bring it to life through a variety of different mediums,” hinting at more exciting developments to come!
