After winning the Very Big Indie Pitch Mobile award at this year’s PG Connects, you can now play this Immutable zkEVM-powered game for free on Windows PCs, Android, and iOS, and anyone who pre-registered on the Play Store should have received a free Starter Pack IAP. What Is Battle Bears Heroes?
Battle Bears Heroes is a free to play isometric PvP brawler featuring a variety of action-packed game modes to play in as customizable and upgradable 3D bears. The game’s launch this year is a celebration of 15 years since the Battle Bears franchise emerged, and as such includes popular characters, maps, and weapons from past entries, as well as game modes inspired by gameplay from previous web2 instalments.
Game Modes
You can enjoy fighting your way through a single-player campaign mode representing a re-imagined version of 2010’s Battle Bears –1, earning skins as you help Oliver, Riggs, and Will survive the Huggable Invasion.
Next to defending the Ursa Major ship, you can jump in 4 new multiplayer modes: Brick Battle, Mini MOBA, Deathmatch, and Battle Royale.
Brick Battle is a brand new original 3v3 mode inspired by Battle Bears Zombies, the first game in the franchise. Two teams are tasked with collecting Rainbow Bricks to bring back to the Unicorn Cart. The team that brings back the most Rainbow Bricks wins, but make sure you stop the enemy team from blowing up your Cart, because if that happens, you’re back to square one. Killing opposing players carrying Rainbow Bricks makes them drop the bricks for you to steal.
Mini MOBA is a fast-paced 3v3 MOBA mode inspired by League of Legends. Just like with any traditional MOBA, you have a main base to protect, with Huggable minions marching onwards in three-lane maps which have towers called Tesla Turrets to take down in order to get closer to destroying the opposing side’s base to win the match. There a couple of maps to battle in, and all of them consist of 3 lanes as well as Lavable Golems you can defeat to get buffs such as a team-wide damage or health increase for a potential advantage over your opponent.
Deathmatch is said to be based on the team deathmatch mode from Battle Bears Gold, and revolves around getting the highest amount of points by killing players from the opposing team in 3v3 action.
Last but not least is Battle Royale, a 10-player mode in which a Huggable storm cloud envelopes the playing field consisting of teleportation pads to use and boxes to destroy in order to get useful supplies that could help you be the last bear standing.
Features
Players can unlock and upgrade a wide variety of bear heroes that can be leveled up and customized with unique skins, with more characters to be added as time goes on. Each character has different stats and weapons affecting their abilities. Earn rewards by completing various daily and long-term quests but also by progressing through the Treasure Map using trophies earned from winning matches. You can unlock more quests and prizes by buying the Golden Bear Pass. Climb the leaderboard and enjoy a new soundtrack featuring new music but also remixes of classic tracks from previous games as the developers continue to add more maps, skins, heroes, and game modes to enjoy in future seasons.
The web3 side of things is completely optional, and if you want to experience cross-platform gameplay progression, you can then choose to either link your email or sign in using Immutable Passport to let you easily continue playing on the same account across PC and mobile.
How to Play and Earn in Battle Bears Heroes
When it comes to play to earn features, one SkyVu developer in the franchise’s official Discord server labelled Battle Bears Heroes as a ‘web2.5’ game. This label is said to represent a focus on play to own gameplay, where the blockchain game makes it easy for anyone to enjoy the benefit of “lifetime ownership over in-game items” while avoiding the “negative speculative problems” that can pop up in the world of blockchain gaming.
To achieve this play and earn system, the game lets players earn limited skins from events and the Bear Pass. These skins will be possible to mint in Season 2 to make them tradable. There is also a silver currency called BCX that anyone can earn right now through events, tournaments, drops, and leaderboards. It will be possible to convert this offchain currency into an on-chain token at some point in the future. No specific timeframe has been given for that at the time of writing, nor has the name of the token been mentioned. You can start earning BCX right now by ranking among the top 100 players on the daily leaderboard.
