The Super Champs Protocol Foundation has announced the launch of the Super Champs Chain, a dedicated L3 gaming-optimized chain on the Base network.
What Is the Super Champs Chain?
The Super Champs Chain is a new layer 3 network made to help support the transformation of anime-inspired web3 franchise Super Champs into the “first truly scalable web3 gaming franchise.” It’s been created for Coinbase’s Base blockchain using the web3-focused mobile game publishing platform and protocol of the franchise’s gaming partner, Joyride Games. This chain also makes use of Arbitrum’s rollup stack in order to deliver fast transactions with low costs while enabling a gas-free gameplay experience, with its architecture said to move complex processes from Base while scaling horizontally with Joyride’s omnichain network. With this setup, the franchise is able to increasingly scale and deal with bigger load, and still enjoy the security that comes with building on the Ethereum network.
The Founder and CEO of Joyride Games, Omar Siddiqui, said the following in a press release:
“It’s amazing to see Super Champs generating such excitement for its games and animated series on TikTok and YouTube. As the first mobile games ecosystem built on our publishing platform and protocol, we can’t wait to see every studio building a Super Champs game accelerate its growth with access to world-class infrastructure. Our long term vision has always been for Super Champs to introduce a new web3 paradigm for game franchises, and it’s thrilling to see it come to life.”
The Growth of Super Champs Ecosystem So Far
Before this L3 network went live, Super Champs was already a leading web3 gaming ecosystem on Base, thanks to its quest-based airdrop platform and two popular mobile games: Racket Rampage and Bullet League. Racket Rampage is a tennis game, while Bullet League is a 2.5D platformer battle royale. Both are said to have collectively garnered 5 million installs and have so far made up 10% of Base’s daily active users. Once the games are actually migrated to the new network, the L3 will turn into a “Top 5 gaming blockchain with current activity alone.” Further keeping players engaged in this ecosystem is Season 1 of Super Champs’ play to airdrop campaign, which started back in June and continues to remain live at the time of writing, giving players a chance to secure an allocation of $CHAMP tokens ahead of its upcoming TGE by completing various quests located on the official website. The ecosystem’s web3 native quest platform has accumulated 125k+ daily onchain active users and 700k+ monthly active users.
Next to the fast-paced blockchain mobile games, the IP also features animated storytelling across social media, leading to more than 10 million views and over 600k subscribers/followers across YouTube and TikTok.
Super Champs Protocol Foundation Director Vivek Nallavelli added the following regarding this announcement:
“The Super Champs ecosystem has seen dramatic growth already, and it is poised to grow further with the upcoming launch of the $CHAMP token. We aim to build the first scaled web3 gaming franchise, immersing the community in multiple mobile games and a deep story-based universe. Our next mission is to empower Builders to bring new, high quality game experiences set in the Super Champs Universe to our engaged community.”
The Super Champs BuilderKit
In order to empower a variety of mobile game creators to deliver varied blockchain gaming experiences in this web3 universe, the Foundation has not only launched the L3 chain, but also BuilderKit, a set of mobile-optimized tools related to game development, live operations, and growth that mobile gaming studios can use to create web3 games under the same IP, leveraging the franchise’s “proven infrastructure, tech stack, and IP to access our thriving community of players and creators.” These tools have been specifically made for this ecosystem, and as such feature a range of different web3 and web2 tools to help developers create quality web3 gaming experiences. The suite supports web3 features such as wallets, NFT integrations, and simple integration into the franchise’s questing platforms, while web2 capabilities include live operations support in the form of analytics, tournaments, AB testing, and more. Based on the announcement, mobile game developers essentially get web2 tools and services similar to the ones from traditional game publishers, but combined with web3 features to make it easier to create great blockchain games. The BuilderKit is already being used for existing ecosystem games, supporting 500k players who are said to have generated more than 7 million transactions, according to a tweet in the official thread on Twitter/X.
The team is now considering new game ideas and as such is looking to partner with game developers interested in contributing to the ecosystem. Anyone interested can get in touch with a team member in the ecosystem’s official Discord server, or send an email to the address found at the end of the official announcement.
Scott Rupp, the Founding General Partner at BITKRAFT Ventures, also commented in the press release:
“We’re still in the nascent stages of understanding the true potential of web3 gaming, and there’s no other web3 native mobile game IP that has already generated early momentum like Super Champs. Today’s announcement makes it easier than ever for game developers to build in the robust Super Champs ecosystem, taking us another step closer to decentralization and bringing web3 experiences to the mainstream. We are proud to have contributed to Joyride’s total capital raised of $30MM with partners such as Coinbase Ventures, Animoca, OpenSea, Solana Ventures, and other ecosystem participants, helping to provide it the resources for today’s milestone.”
Next to the investors mentioned by Rupp, both the Super Champs Protocol Foundation and Joyride Games are also backed by OKX Ventures, MON Protocol’s Giulio Xiloyannis, YGG’s Gabby Dizon, SuperVerse’s EllioTrades, and more.
